Urban sustainability expert and circular economy strategist with deep experience in resilient African cities.
Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio is a leading authority in urban sustainability, environmental planning, and climate-resilient infrastructure in Africa. As the Sustainable Urban Development Lead at Ecozak Africa, he brings an interdisciplinary lens to shaping inclusive, data-driven, and climate-smart urban transitions that prioritise equity, circularity, and environmental justice.
A Professor of Geography and Resource Development at the University of Ghana, Prof. Oteng-Ababio has spent over two decades researching and advising on the nexus between urbanisation, risk governance, waste management, and spatial inequality in rapidly growing African cities. His research and professional work have informed national and international frameworks on sustainable cities, disaster risk reduction, and green infrastructure development.
At Ecozak Africa, he leads the urban policy and technical advisory portfolio, helping governments, municipalities, and development partners reimagine cities as engines of sustainability. He is the chief architect behind Ecozak Africa’s Urban Green Nexus Model, which integrates nature-based solutions, low-carbon mobility, and decentralised service systems into urban planning.
Prof. Oteng-Ababio also plays a critical role in Ecozak Africa’s Green Transmission Corridors Initiative (GTCI) by ensuring that the design and integration of urban transmission corridors reflect global best practices in liveable cities, urban biodiversity, and resilience infrastructure. His work bridges grassroots realities with policy frameworks—ensuring that African urban development is inclusive, ecologically sound, and future-ready.
Internationally published and widely respected in academic and policy circles, Prof. Oteng-Ababio serves on several global panels and review boards. His work continues to influence thinking on how cities in the Global South can leapfrog toward sustainability without replicating unsustainable development trajectories.
With a career rooted in scholarship and a passion for impact, Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio is instrumental to Ecozak Africa’s mission of advancing urban pathways that are socially inclusive, climate-responsive, and environmentally intelligent.
